It has been a very busy and productive term in our Year 7 classes. We have been impressed with the way our students have contributed throughout this term and the positive finish we have had to Term Three.

On Wednesday night over 200 students took part in our Arts eXtravaganza at OBHS. The night came alive with music, dance, lights and drama as the Wearable Arts, Talent Quest finalists, dance crews , Pacific Island Dance and the amazing creations from hats, lanterns and masks took to the stage.

As part of our Year 7 PBL unit on family fun and fitness, a group of students worked on helping to plan the first ever Balmacewen Colour Run.

Last week our orders went out for our FFF Family Bags. We would like to say a huge thank you to the families who supported this business - this is the first time we have done this PBL project and there was a lot of learning along the way.

We are well into Term 3 programmes with plenty of fun learning activities happening.

Year 7 students have explored making clay fish. They also painted fish focusing on mixing new colours and using a variety of techniques.

In art, the Year 8 classes have been busy using the observational drawing skills of a scientist crossed with the tonal skills of an artist. Next, they explored and played with making cartoons of bees depicting some of the jobs and types of bees in a hive.

Some Year 8 classes have produced designer pin cushions. The students have learnt a variety of hand sewing stitches and have had to problem solve when developing their unique templates. I was impressed with the students creativity, perseverance and development of skills. Some look good enough to eat!!

Our Year 7 students have started their 'Softie Creations' this term. There has been a lot of new learning involved from designing templates to threading needles and hand sewing a variety of designer stitches. Learning new things can be challenging but we have persevered and produced original softies jam packed full of personality and progress! Well done Year 7 Textiles :)

On Thursday 22nd August Balmacewen girls played Columba in a variety of sports and the boys played John McGlashan. There were some convincing wins and tough matches for all schools. It was a great day out!
