Sarah Ford represented Balmacewen at the South Island Schools Cycling Championships on the 9th and 10th of July in Christchurch. There were three events; an individual time trial, a team time trial and a road race. Sarah won the U13 Girls Time Trial by 8 seconds. In the U13 Girls road race, after chasing down the leader, Sarah won by half a wheel. In the Under 14 Girls Team Time Trial Sarah’s team, of riders from four different schools, were the fastest but they were not eligible for a medal as they were from different schools.

Here is a wonderful opportunity for children to interact with writers and illustrators from around New Zealand at the Storylines Children’s Literature Family Day. We have included a programme of events which should appeal to children of all ages, from pre-school right up to young people in their late teens, as well as adults who enjoy author talks and writer’s workshops. There will be theatrical performances by high school students, workshops for budding poets and writers, art workshops, nature workshops, fashion, stories and talks, plus the usual fun of face-painting and craft activities. With a sausage sizzle and popcorn stand thrown in, it’s the perfect day out for the family. We’ve even had people bring birthday party groups along in previous years, as the entertainment’s all laid on free! A copy of the bios is attached.
