Year 7 is humming with many highlights and exciting programmes underway.

We have had a very busy few weeks in Year 7. Tama from Attitude NZ presented to the Year 7 students as part of our Health topic with a focus on Friendships - how to make and keep friends. We also had our Pink Shirt day where classes spent time looking at how we can continue to be kind, caring and respectful and how to be an Upstander - actions to support what you know is right and how to check in and support others. This week we also have Constable Max Holt in to talk to our Year 7 cohort about online safety, the law around consent to post photos and information about others and cyber bullying.

All our classes have started working on their Term two PBL projects under our theme of "Hauora Heroes". This year we have a number of different projects underway supporting our health programme through Nutrition, Wellbeing and Philanthropy - giving back to our community. These are all focused on students making a difference and enhancing the wellbeing of others. For some classes this is looking at food wastage and making products such as pickles, chutneys, jams, soups etc using produce that has been donated by Wobbly Fruit, Fresh Choice Supermarket and Gardens New World to give back to community groups and those in need. Kiwiharvest are one of the local organisations that collect and redistribute food that would otherwise be wasted. Others are fundraising for "The Kindness" project with a focus on donating winter PJ'S. Some classes are looking at recovery and wellbeing in hospital and designing activities for patients.

We are also supporting the 'BAGS of HOPE' project with the cancer society creating artworks to decorate bags for patients who are receiving treatment in the Oncology department.

This June we are also encouraging students to sign up to Jumping June to fundraise for the Heart Foundation. We will be skipping and jumping our way through June as part of our Fitness programme.

Thank you for the ongoing support of our school programmes.
