Nau mai, haere mai. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new students and whanau to our Balmacewen community.

Welcome in to our school! It was a high energy, excited day yesterday as our new Year 7 students found their way into their new class and meet their teachers and fellow classmates for the first time. We are really looking forward to a fabulous year with our new cohort of Year 7 students.

Term One is a busy start for our new Year 7 students as they navigate new classrooms, teachers and routines. We will spend the first two weeks setting up our programmes and spending time on activities getting to know each other. An important part of this process is our Year 7 Waihola camp. All classes will have three days at Waihola. This will be a great opportunity to get to know our students and for friendships to form.

Newsletters explaining these events will be sent home with your child in the first week of term. These will include more detailed information and requests for your help to run our camps. . We greatly value and rely on whānau support to help make our out-of-school activities possible, and we would love to see you involved if you’re able to help in any way,

Camp Dates

February 18-20th - Room's 6 and 10

February 23-25th - Room's 7 and 8

February 25-27th - Room's 5 and 14

March 2-4th - Room's 9 and 11

March 4-6th - Room 13

Our focus for our term one curriculum is Ūkaipō- leaning about our students families, connections and history as well as our school history and traditions. We tie this in with a focus on Aotearoa histories also. We celebrate this learning with a Cultural day at the end of the term.

We look forward to sharing our school vision, classroom programmes and getting to know you better at our Meet the Teacher evening next week- Wednesday February 4th at 7pm.

As part of our ongoing communication, every teacher will share regular updates with you via a either a weekly email, newsletter or class site. This is a way keeping you informed on what is happening in and around our classrooms and school.
