Room 3 Character Writing

By Lisa Dixon | Posted: Sunday December 3, 2023
Over the last two weeks we have been focusing on character writing. To finish our unit, the students had to choose either their mother or father to create a paragraph character description. These were then added to a slide to share with the parents anonymously to see if they could recognise themselves- some have been brutally honest! Here is a sample of our writing.

A ferocious war is being fought on top of her head between the abundant brown strands of hair and the sneaky white roots. Her eyes look like they come straight from the ocean. She covers her skin head to toe with makeup and moisturiser, with earrings, necklaces and bracelets leaving no uncovered skin. But, if you can look behind the products and jewelry, you’ll find a positive, caring and supportive mum who’ll try to help you in any way she can. That is, if you treat her right.

Being one of her coworkers is carefully treading a tightrope between getting the help and kindness of one of the most talented workers in her department and feeling the wrath of her ferocious passive-aggressiveness, saved only for people who severely wrong her. Appease her by gifting perfume, soaps or any other luxury product.

They say “never ask a woman her age,” and this couldn’t be more true with my mother. Be weary when serving her food as her palate can hardly handle anything spicier than salt. My mum’s 6 favourite words are “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie,” and “oi, oi, oi. She’s so patriotic in fact, that whenever the land down under is mentioned, her Australian accent goes into overdrive.

My mum is a ticking time bomb, great at making people do things and explodes when messed with, but she also has the persistence of an Olympic athlete and so much intelligence that Albert Einstein would be jealous.

Short above shoulder length hair, dark brown colour that she's box dyed so many times I've lost track.

My mum is a kind ,caring, hard working, person, well most of the time. My mum likes a lot of things like, our dog, playing with our dog, taking our dog on walks, buying our dog things that he doesn't need. If you couldn't tell my mum loves our dog, she also loves telling me off, turning off the internet, taking my phone off me, and saying that I always have attitude ( i don't).

My mum has a fun bubbly personality, she’s kind caring and a really good mum she can also be really funny, especially when she's telling you off she tries to be scary but it doesn't work,

My mum has a lot of skills like she used to be really good at gymnastics, she can't even do a roley poley now, my mum also knows how to whistle but she sounds like a dying bird when she does.

I love my mum a lot even if she loves the dog more than me.

Although my dad can be grumpy sometimes, he can be really useful because if you need help to fix your car my dad can help with that because he used to be a mechanic for his old job.

But he also can be really kind as well. His light brown hair reminds me of the dirt that we ride on with our motorbikes and his hazel green eyes remind me of the hazel green harbour where we go fishing.

My dad does not like it when I am naughty because he gets really angry really easily and he does not like the dog on the couch because the couch gets covered in dog hair. My dad is a pretty cool dad.

My Dad is a great 47 year old guy and if you want to find him you'll probably find him up a mountain, on the trails with me or down in a mine and those are just some of the things he loves to do. He likes his hair short and it was as black as night but now it's turning into the moon with all the silvers coming through. He says he's six two but I think he's actually six one. He has brown eyes, big hands and is only one shoe size bigger than me which is crazy. The one thing Dad dislikes about biking is getting shuttles up the hill because he is a very active guy. Another thing my dad dislikes is putting up the Christmas decorations. He is such a grinch at Christmas time but not so much when it comes to opening the presents. His jokes are as dry as the desert on the scorching day. Something my dad is great at is math, he is always helping my sisters with math, he's also great at fixing things like teck bikes and cars. Dad is a great family man and makes us laugh and Dad is always there to help us when we need him.

Although she is afraid of spiders and worms, under all that fear is an amazing, kind, caring woman who tries her hardest to keep us happy like the quote “mothers are like glue even when you can't see them they are still holding the family together”. When I think of my mum I think of her beautiful long blonde hair, her scottish blue eyes, her purple wrinkled top she wears everytime she goes out of the house and her loaded face of makeup. My mum can’t go a day without coffee- if she doesn't get her coffee you better watch out! My mum loves my friends not so much my old ones. Her dark blue jeans and her maroon coloured katmandu jacket, lets not forget her sunglasses- she can't go anywhere without them . My mum's smile is as bright as a field of butter cups. My mum is picky but calm, gentle and loving, especially with coffee and sleep.

When I see my mum I see a loving lady who gives second chances and a woman who cares about everyone and I mean everyone.

That's my mum.
