Year 7 News

Our students recently went on a trip to the Museum to complete workshops for our Discovery unit on animal classification and adaptations. This always adds value to our programme and brings our learning into an authentic context.

Our literacy programme has been based around readings related to the animal kingdom and note taking for scientific animal reports. This week students have started working on the second stage of our PBL to design and create their animals that could survive on our frozen planet. We were lucky enough to have Jonas from Runaway Play spend the day in our Year 7 classes supporting our students and giving feedback and ideas.

Classes have also been training hard for the cross country and we encourage active lifestyles and participation to build healthy life habits. Students enjoyed the options of competitive racing or fun events like the relay to earn points for their house. The highly competitive House Haka competition is also a highlight of the day.

Our school is also busy with extra curricula activities. Winter sport has wrapped up this week with many students taking part in the wide range of sporting opportunities. Our Production cast are rehearsing for the school production which is in early Term Four and our Kapa Haka students have three weeks left before they will be performing at Polyfest. Last week we had a number of students take part in the Otago Science Fair and the O'Mathlon challenge had Balmacewen students competing yet again at a high level.

August 28th: Daffodil- Yellow mufti and fundraiser

September 11th: Skills and Drills morning at the Edgar Centre

September 16th: Year 7 Disco.
