Kia ora Year 8 Whānau.

Our Year 8 students are fully immersed in the Legacy Programme, and it’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm and maturity they’re bringing to this final stage of their primary journey. This Term 4 programme gives students the opportunity to showcase and apply the many skills they have developed over the past two years. From experience, we know these activities help strengthen the foundation your child needs as they prepare to take the next big step into high school.

Teachers have been commenting on the positive tone within the year group — it’s fantastic to see students consistently showing kindness, respect, and teamwork.

As part of our Legacy Unit, students are learning a range of social dances in preparation for the Year 8 Social at the end of the year — always a much-loved highlight! All syndicates have begun this exciting unit, and it hasn’t taken long for students to move past the initial awkwardness and really enjoy themselves. In fact, many are now asking their teachers daily if they can keep practising!

A reminder that Friday, 14 November is a Teacher Only Day, which coincides with the Year 9 Orientation Programmes run by most high schools. Your child will need to make their own way to and from their 2026 high school. In previous years, this day has involved physical and team-building activities, so students should wear appropriate sports shoes and clothing. Please check the information provided by your child’s high school for specific details.

Looking ahead, we have a number of exciting events to round off the year, including the Syndicate Day Out, Year 8 Touch Tournament, and of course, the Year 8 Social. Teachers continue to reinforce the expectations shared in the Term 4 newsletter — encouraging students to keep striving for their best and to treat others with kindness and respect.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
