This term our Year 8 ākonga have explored the exciting world of designing and sewing fit-for-purpose bags. They had a unique opportunity to showcase their creativity by sewing their own tote bags and drawstring bags. From selecting their fabric to personalizing their design choices through screen printing, the process was both fun and character building.
Designing a bag involves careful planning and consideration of its intended use. Ākonga learned about the importance of functionality and aesthetics, ensuring that their bags not only looked good but also served a practical purpose. By choosing durable materials and incorporating appropriate features, they created bags that were both stylish and functional.
Screen printing allowed students to add a personal touch to their designs. From vibrant patterns to meaningful symbols, each student had the freedom to express their creativity. The process of screen printing taught students about precision and attention to detail, as they carefully transferred their designs onto the fabric.
Through this unit, ākonga developed valuable skills in design, sewing, and printing. They honed their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. They also learned the satisfaction of turning a vision into a tangible product.
Congratulations to all who participated in designing and sewing their fit-for-purpose bags. Your hard work and creativity was fabulous!
Keep exploring your passions and embracing new challenges. Who knows, you may just be the next fashion designer in the making!
