After our camp at Waihola we wrote some "explosive moment in time" pieces. Enjoy some of our writing below Our focus was on "show not tell", using our senses and activating our nouns to create the video in our heads for our writing.

As I stood on the platform on the waterslide, rushing ice cold water pulling my feet, heart pumping, legs trembling I could hear my breath panting. I sat down at the start of the waterslide ready to launch myself but voices inside my head saying"don't look down" repeatedly. 3, 2, 1, I zoom down like lightning as cold water spreads like butter on my back spreading out to my neck and legs. Blast went the water as the water showered my face and went up my nose as the crashing water submerged me under. Agrima

I leant on the barrel, heart racing faster than a startled rabbit, my blood pumping, eyes wide, straining to aim through the tiny sight strapped the rifle clutched in my shaking hands. This was my final shot and I was aiming for the hardest target, the pig, I had already wasted two shots on it and hadn’t even come close to knocking it down as it was barely visible against the background of waving golden fronds, but it was too late to go back now. I took the shot. The bullet flew faster than I’d ever thought possible and struck the pig in what I like to imagine was its smug little face, launching it backwards and filling me with excitement that electrified me and made me so joyful I almost screamed. As the line at the big black slippery water slide got shorter and shorter, my heart started racing. Goose bumps forming up my arms ; it was my turn. I lay down, cold water soaking my togs. My arms were crossed and with a little push I was off. Water splashing, legs trembling, body shaking

Zooming down like a race car on the track

before I knew it I plunged into cold icy water swallowing me whole. My heels smashing on the sides. As I rose from the water I heard kids, screaming, cheering and laughing. I sprinted back up the hill , grass sticking to my feet, lining up to do it again. By Indi

Arrows flung through the air. I quickly bowed my head to dodge a marshmallow headed bullet. Picking up the arrow I’d dodged, my eyes widen as my fellow soldier, Willow collapsed onto the ground. “It’s only me left” I thought loading my bow. My hands were shaking, my heart pounding as I stepped foward on wobbly legs, aimed and shot.

I tiptoed toward the water slide my stomach churning, toes wriggling in a dirty, mushy puddle of water, peering down at the slide as it dropped away like a cliff. My heart jumped into my throat. By Isobel

I came closer to the slide, hearing the loud sound of water and people slipping down. I shivered, it was cold in a swimsuit…

I felt a wave of excitement and fear as I realized it was my turn. I sat down, heart thumping, body shaking, eyes wide. The cold spray of water on my back felt as if it was pushing me, and I slid. Water blinded me, forcing myself to close my eyes. I tried to see, but couldn't. The moment seemed to stretch out like a lifetime, and I started to wonder when it was ever gonna end… Then I heard myself splash into the water. I couldn't breathe! It felt like I was dropped into the ocean! Then I felt my head rise above the water and I took in long, shaky breaths. My hair was dripping as I stepped out into the cold grass. My heart was still thumping, but I felt so happy, and I ran back up towards the line to do it again. MARLEY
