Year 7 News, September 2018

It has a been a busy time in Year 7, read below to find out what is happening for the Year 7 team.

It is so fabulous the days are getting longer, the sun is shining and the blossoms around the school are starting to show.  We have really enjoyed getting outside of the class during break times and being able to do PE outside.

As our athletic sports are on the last day of Term 3, many classes have been or are about to start teaching the fundamentals of athletics during PE.  There has been lots of running, jumping and throwing! If you have any expertise in this area, please don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's class teacher.

Most Year 7 classes have finished their unit on Pubertal Change. Not only were we learning about coping with the physical changes that occur at puberty but equally as important, the emotional changes.  It was great to see that the Year 7 pupils can recognise the influence the media has on their self esteem and image and how best to not let it impact  them and their general wellbeing. We hope this unit of work has lead to some valuable dinner time discussions with your child.

We are really proud of our Year 7 pupils who are involved in both Polyfest and the upcoming production.  It is great that they have signed up and committed to their performances on stage. The Kapa Haka Roopu performance  was powerful and clearly showed many many hours of dedicated practices. We look forward to watching the school production in a few weeks and seeing all their hard work come to life! Well done to all of our pupils involved.

Looking ahead to Term 4 we have another action packed term.  All year 7 classes will spend a day at Long Beach and take part in Rock Climbing under the tutelage of Dunedin Climbing LTD and beach activities. All dates are on our school calendar so please check the date for your child's class if you are interested in helping out.  A detailed permission form will be coming home next term.

We all hope you get to enjoy a restful break in a few weeks and as always, thank you for your ongoing support.
