Year 8 News

All Year 8 staff are delighted to be back and are very much looking forward to working alongside your children this year. A special welcome to all students and families who are new to Balmacewen – we’re so pleased to have you with us.
The beginning of the year is always a high-energy time, full of excitement, mixed with a few nerves and a touch of trepidation. Throughout the term, a key focus across all classes will be building an inclusive, respectful, and kind learning culture. We look forward to sharing our teaching philosophy and getting to know you better at our Meet the Teacher evening next week.
Start-of-Year Events
Week 2 = 4 February: Meet the Teacher Evening
Week 3 = 9–16 February: Daily Swimming Lessons
Week 4 = 16–20 February: Toitū Museum Trip
Newsletters explaining these events will be sent home with your child in the first week of term. These will include more detailed information and requests for assistance with upcoming events. We greatly value and rely on whānau support to help make our out-of-school activities possible, and we would love to see you involved if you’re able to help.
This term, our PBL learning will focus on people and events that have had a significant impact on our local region and Aotearoa, New Zealand. Each syndicate will be working towards hosting a quiz night at the end of the term, providing an opportunity to showcase learning and celebrate progress with you.
As part of our ongoing communication, each Year 8 class will share regular updates with you via a weekly email, newsletter or class post. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child’s teacher if you have any questions, concerns, or information you’d like to share.
Kā mihi,
Year 8 Staff
