Storage Solutions

Our Year 8 ākonga have been creating drawstring bags in our Fabrics room.

Ākonga have made decisions about who they are making their bag for and what it will hold.

This helped them decide on a sensible size, shape, how it will be carried and fabric choices. Some have challenged themselves by including extra attributes such as a pocket to hold particular items.

Cotton blends and water resistant nylon were the fabric options students had to choose from. The properties of fabric are important to consider when designing as they all must have a purpose.

There have been many opportunities to problem solve and persevere. Those who made their own templates had to trial their design idea first and solve any problems before moving on.

It has been an exciting space to work in. Watching the students collaborate and seeing them enjoy the process is awesome!

When reflecting, all ākonga are expected to discuss their chosen attributes and explain how their bag is fit for purpose.

These fabulous bags should be making their way home over the next week or so. Enjoy hearing about the design process and celebrate their outcome with them. They are proud and so is their teacher!

We are moving into screen printing our tote bags next.
