Year 7 News

We have had a very busy start to our term in classrooms and with winter sport getting underway. Classes have been working on ANZAC writing, Reading and ART, as well as starting our new unit - Survivor- for our Term Two PBL - . Read on to find out more and check out some of our work in this Newsletter.

We have completed our work on ANZAC Day and have moved into the really busy part of our theme/ PBL unit - Survivor.  We began our unit with  a bang with our guest presenter Amadeo who presented an engaging and informative science show for our students. His focus was on asking questions, wondering about the world around us and thinking like scientists. Our classrooms have been a hive of activity as we explore and discuss different areas of science with a focus on the Animal kingdom and adaptations. This unit was ignited by a fantastic visit to the Marine Centre at Portobello.

Over the next few weeks students will begin the process of learning about adaptations, classification and food webs. Our project outcomes for each class may vary between designing APPS, creating digital escape rooms and picture books to educate about our local Rocky Seashore.  Later this term we move into a unit around Matariki including a trip to the Arai Te Uru Marae.

As we return to school for this term we have also reflected and reset our Balmac way and school values. There is an emphasis in all classes on our Super Skills - having a growth mindset, self control and excellence- be my best. It has been fantastic to see how our Year 7 students continue to grow and develop in these areas and this has been reflected in our classrooms, playgrounds and school Assemblies.

We would like to thank all our parents who continue to support our classroom programmes.
