We extend a very warm welcome to all Whānau and friends of our Year 8 community.

The start of the year is often a chaotic time with so many events on the timetable. We really do appreciate your involvement in ensuring that we are able to run our programmes. Without your support we would not be able to run programmes like the Beach Ed Trip. Ngā mihi nui!

The focus for our Year 8 students has been building positive relationships with both students and staff. We have all been delighted with the enthusiasm and positivity that the students have displayed over the last 4 weeks. A major focus has been the implementation of a caring and friendly manner to ensure the Year 7 seven students feel welcomed at their new school. It has been wonderful to see so many Year 8 students display the maturity and leadership skills to ensure this has happened. Events like the Mihi Whakatau, buddy clases and house sport have certainly welcomed the Year 7s into the school.

The main emphasis here is that your children are now the leaders of the school and with that comes new responsibilities. As discussed above, developing the family culture of Manaakitanga (respect, kindness, support…)and Whanaunatanga (belonging) is an ongoing focus.

This term we have been learning about both events and people who have shaped our local region and country. Each syndicate will be hosting a quiz night to showcase their learning. This quiz is part of the students' PBL for the term. The students have planned and organised this event to teach their community about the history of Otago.

We look forward to meeting you at the up-coming parent teacher interviews.

Ngā mihi
