Kia ora family and friends of our year 8 Whanau. Next term we will complete our Kaitiakitanga unit. We will be looking at climate change and investigating ways of sustainable living.

As part of our Term 3 Unit, Kaitiakitanga, all Year 8 classes will be taking part in a series of ‘Igniter’ activities. These are designed to spark interest in the children in relation to our learning context and lead them on a path of wondering and curiosity.

We are fortunate in Dunedin to have access to skilled and enthusiastic professionals who are able to support the students in this learning.

Firstly students are having a session, at school, with the staff from the Otago University Marine Study Centre. They will explore the underwater environment using VR technology.

Secondly, we are taking year 8 to the movies to see the documentary 2040. Concerned about his young daughter's future, filmmaker Damon Gameau travels the world in search of new approaches and solutions to climate change. He meets with innovators and changemakers in many fields to draw on their expertise.

These and other igniters promise to spark curiosity and wonderment.
