Otago Athletics

Term 4 has been a busy term with the North Zone Athletics and Otago Athletic championships being held at the Caledonian.

Balmacewen had 120 students competing at North zones across all events. We had 24 relay teams at the event and all 24 qualified for Otago Athletics. 

At the Otago Athletics we had a student break a record, which is an outstanding effort; Cairo broke the over 13 high jump record with a jump of 1.53m. Here are the individual results:

Liam H - 1st Hurdles 

Crew W - 1st Shot Put

Kalo A - 2nd Shot Put 

Darcy C - 1st= Long Jump 

Zach C - 1st High Jump, 1st Long Jump & 2nd sprints

William O - 3rd sprints, 2nd Hurdles

Georgia B - 1st Hurdles, 2nd Discus, 3rd Sprints 

Rosie G - 2nd High Jump

Cairo C - 1st High Jump, 1st Sprints

Samuel Y - 1st Hurdles

Jack P - 2nd Hurdles, 3rd Long Jump

Ryan U - 1st 800m, 3= Hurdles

Jackson Shaw - 1st Discus, 2nd Shot Put

Oliver T-J - 2nd High Jump

Mait H - 3rd Discus

Lawrence B-C - 3rd Hurdles

Along with these amazing results, seven of our relay teams placed in the top 3. Here are the names of these relay runners that placed: 

3rd place under 12 boys - Zander K, Liam W, Lennox S & Thomas O

1st place under 13 girls - Lailah R, Darcy C, Seren J & Bella S

1st place under 13 boys- Zach C, William O, Archie G, Victor R

3rd place under 13 boys - Lawrence B-C, Toby C, Lucas W, Josh W

3rd place 13&over girls - Georgia B, Tayla H, Kymorah-Lee T, Brooke B

1st place 13&over boys - Cairo C, Tim N, Maddox A, Jack P

2nd place 13&over boys - Samuel Y, Ali C, Oliver W, Ryan U

All these Otago Athletics students will receive badges and awards in the upcoming assembly.
