Giant Brain??

In Week 6 a group of students from Year 7 took part in a workshop that was facilitated by the University of Otago Brain and Brain Health research centre.

Following up from a presentation at a Year 7 Assembly around the adolescent brain, a group of students were selected to take part in a workshop focusing on how our brain works and emotions. At this workshop the students looked at parts of the brain, functions of the brain, brainwaves and how our emotions impact on our brain waves, chemicals and feelings.

The facilitators - Courtney, Lili and Ellie also looked into Stress and the Brain and things that they can do to improved their stress levels and wellbeing. They also were able to try the headset which measures brain waves when stressed and also calm to see how they change. This is a new outreach programme that they have developed for schools and we were lucky to be taking part.

As part of this afternoon the students and all Year 7 classes were able to look at a giant brain model to see the parts, functions and to look at how to look after our brains.

This was another great session to tie in with our Term Three focus on Health and Wellbeing.
