The Health of Our Stream

This term as part of our Kaitiakitanga PBL some Year 8 students have been focussing on water quality.

Throughout this project our students have been introduced to the concepts of catchments, run off, stormwater and wastewater.

They have also developed their knowledge about our catchment and the origins, course and history of the Kaikorai Stream.

As part of our learning we had visits from Catchment Advisors from the Otago Regional Council. One of these visits was spent down in our stream where we looked further into its health. We did three experiments that focussed on the clarity of the water, the vegetation that surrounds our stream and the invertebrates that live in it.

It was great to see our students enjoying themselves out in the field and engaging with our local experts. They have given us some great ideas as to what we can do to help protect the future of our stream.
