Message from the Principal

It's nearly Spring and we're looking forward to warmer days ahead!

Kia ora e te whānau

As you will see in our newsletter, we have been very busy, active and successful in many areas this term.

Firstly. I want to acknowledge the contribution of two Board of Trustee members who are stepping down at the next election. Chairperson Andrew Dawson steps down after 6 years of Board service. His astute and fair minded leadership has been of tremendous value to Balmacewen. Board member John Blaikie also steps down after 3 years. John has played an important role in personnel and appointments. Thank you both for your excellent contribution to our school.

On that note, it has been pleasing to see 9 nominations for the upcoming board elections. You will receive postal voting papers soon with the election taking place in late September.

Our winter sports programme is coming to an end. We have had high levels of participation across a variety of sports which has been great to see. I wish to acknowledge the work of our Sports Coordinator, Kate Ebrahim for the excellent work she has done in this area. I also thank all coaches and managers for their contribution to our sports programme. It's much appreciated!

As you will see, our learning programmes are in full swing with some superb work on display. Well done to everyone who has worked hard and achieved great results. The continued focus on our Balmac Super Skills is definitely evident with students developing positive and lifelong skills to take on to high school.

There's plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks and hopefully as the weather improves, everyone can shake off the Covid and flu season. We have definietly seen an improvement in this area with our school wide attendance figures climbing again.
