Tau 7 Korero - Term Four Update

By Lisa Dixon | Posted: Tuesday November 2, 2021

It has been a great start to Term 4 for our Year 7 students. We have started the term revisiting our school values and expectations for Term 4 in our "Balmac Way" sessions. Our new term topic 'pARTicipate' is underway with a focus on the ARTS with music, dance and drama sessions and ignitors.

Another exciting Term is underway for our Year 7 students - their last as Year 7's before they move on as Year 8 next year. We have our term topic "pARTicipate" underway. This is an integrated PBL focus of the ARTS and Literacy. Most classes are using 'Twisted fairytales" as the focus for our sessions in literacy and PBL.

Collaboration and communication will be two major focuses for our classes this term. Students will be undertaking a range of activities, team challenges and experiences where skills in working with others including negotiation, compromise and contributing will be important. Our expectations of students to continue to display our school values - PERK - Perseverance, Excellence, Respect and Kindness - will be reinforced and explicitly referred to in all we do.

As part of our theme PBL this term  classes will use fairytales as the ignitor for their project focus. Each syndicate will choose the focus for this project, whether it is a class performance, digital story book, pick a path story or student choice. Next week we will also have an educator from the RNZB to take a ballet dance session with each class - always a highlight of the term.

Next week we move into the start of our EOTC activities  for this term when our Long Beach rock climbing and team building day gets underway. This is always a fantastic day out as students challenge themselves to achieve their goal on the rock climbing. Thank you to all parents and caregivers who are able to come and assist on this day and out Beach Ed day. Without your help we could not continue these programmes.
