South Island Waterpolo Championships

Last weekend the South Island waterpolo championships were held at Moana Pool. It was fantastic to see that this tournament could go ahead under very strict conditions of Level 2.

We entered our Gold team in the A grade. Despite not being able to get any pool time over the last term, the team showed determination, tenacity and teamwork to rise up to the challenge of taking on teams that have been playing all year. In the A grade the competition was very tough with many close games of only 1 or 2 goals the difference and we ended up 6th place.

Over the weekend we improved so much and the players learnt how to play at this level. I was very proud of their effort, attitude and sportsmanship. Some hard fought close games were the highlight of the weekend. A special shout out to William who was named male player of the tournament - an outstanding effort to lead our team.

Thank you also to Nick Pryde who filled in to coach our team throughout the weekend.
