Year 7 Marae Trip

By Lisa Dixon | Posted: Tuesday June 29, 2021
Last week as part of our Matariki celebrations the Year 7 classes had the opportunity to be welcomed onto our local Arai Te Uru Marae. This was a unique experience for many with an offical powhiri welcome. As part of our preparation each class also took part on an online Te Reo challenge.

Throughout the day the students then took part in many activities such as:

Rāranga (Weaving)

Kēmu (Games)

Mahi toi (Arts)

Mahina kai (Traditional kai gathering practises)

As well as this the students prepared and practiced their Mihi/Pepeha to present to a group also. This was a fun and informative day with many students being on a Marae for the first time learning the Tikanga and protocols. We would like to acknowledge and thank the tutors that ran the day for us providing this unique and educational experience for our students and teachers.

Te Reo Challenge

Congratulations to Room 1 who won the Year 7 Te Reo challenge and earned the Freshman Shield. A special well done to Henry and Bella  who achieved a SILVER award for their outstanding efforts in this challenge.
