Touch

What a term this has been for Balmacewen Touch Teams.

It may have been a slightly shorter term due to the flow-on effects from Covid-19 pushing out the winter sport season but it was filled with a lot of learning, fun and winning.

A number of Balmacewen students trialled and made Metro and Otago teams this term.  Good luck for your up-coming tournaments. We also have a number of ex-students who have been selected for Otago and New Zealand teams in the past year which is awesome.

Balmacewen had 7 teams in the Oval competition on Thursdays.  Some were in the developing grade and played a round robin.  Special mention to The Balmac Cyclones who managed to get through Term 1 and Term 4 undefeated. Balmacewen teams have also demonstrated amazing sportsmanship.  On the last game the Lightning team gave up players to the opposition who only had 4 players turn up and had a great close game.  It was awesome to see all the boys come together at the end for "3 cheers for all of us".

We had 3 teams in the competitive grades and they always had highly exciting games.  The Lions and Tornadoes went through to the finals of the Girls and Boys Grades. The Tornadoes beat Tahuna 4-3 and the Lions beat Columba in a nail-biting exciting drop-off that went down to 3 on 3.  Well done to both teams.

A huge thank you to the student referees who have helped out with the junior grades on a Thursday.  You have volunteered so well and it is much appreciated by all the teams you have worked with.

Another big thank you to our coaches, managers and referees who have given up hours of their time to help out. Thank you to the parents who have sent in photos too to catch the moments that I can't get to.  A special shout out to Rea Tasi-Cordtz who has coached the Balmac Lions for the past 2 years, as well as supporting rugby, league and rippa over the past 4 years. You are fantastic and we really appreciate all your hard work and dedication.
