Netball

We entered 13 teams in the Dunedin Netball Competition run on Thursdays during Term 3.

As another, albeit slightly altered netball season draws to a close it is a good time to reflect on what has been another very busy and successful netball season for Balmacewen Intermediate.  All of the teams performed very well and although spectators were not allowed during Level 2 the players still enjoyed the opportunity to get out on court.

For the majority of Year 7s this was their first time of playing full 7 aside netball which was a big learning curve for them. The Year 8 teams were all very competitive with the Gold and Purple teams going through their respective games unbeaten.

This week the Gold and Yellow teams competed in a netball festival run by Netball South. Both teams played lots of games and had some fantastic results. It was great to see the Yellow team really grow in confidence over the day and win 4 of their 6 games to finish 3rd in the Year 7 grade. The Gold team won all of their games to finish 1st in the Year 8 grade.

Every year Balmacewen offers Year 8 students the opportunity to learn the skills of umpiring. Ms Brady and Mrs Wylie  invest a lot of time and energy into helping these young umpires learn the rules and then how to apply these practically each week. A lot of these young umpires rise through the umpiring ranks and officiate at higher levels. A special thank you to Ms Brady and Mrs Wylie  for their time, expertise and enthusiasm over the season.

I would also like to acknowledge the volunteers who have willingly given their time over Term 3 to either coach, umpire or manage a Balmacewen netball team. We couldn’t offer netball at Balmacewen without your support. We are grateful for the time and effort you have all put into your teams over the season.
