Year 8 Happenings

Kia Ora families and friends of our year 8 community.

It has been wonderful having a full term at school. In-person learning is definitely preferred by all teachers and students. Connecting with each other and having the flexibility to make the most of all opportunities are two of the many strengths of our programmes.

Our focus this term has been the design process. With our school improvements, the Dunedin Hospital upgrade, and making a dragster the students have been very busy looking at making enhancements. We are very pleased with the technologies used to showcase the creative ideas that the students had.

Looking forward to the next term our integrated unit of study is called “Challenge.” We will investigate the challenges faced by Year 8 students. This will include the students…

  • Revising the puberty unit that was covered in Year 7.

  • Completing the drug education programme run by the Life Education Bus

  • Investigating how to be a digital citizen.

  • Building relationships with their peer when completing team-building challenges.

Our Year 8 camping programme has been severely affected by Covid19. Next term our programme will consist of a 1-day visit to the Western Hills farm for a number of group challenges.

The year 8 staff wish our school community all the best for the end of the term and hope you enjoy spending quality time with your children during the school break.
