Year 7 News

The final week is here - and where has this year gone? Our Year 7 students have been very busy over the last month - check out our articles on Long Beach, Ballet and the Science Roadshow also.

It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter for the year; it only seems like yesterday that the Year 7 students were sitting in the hall on day one waiting anxiously for their names to be read out! Now the end of their first year is almost over - and they are ready to take on the leadership and challenges as they move on to Year 8.

All classes have been working on their Term 4 PBL inquiry of pARTicipate - with our driving question - How can we use our skills and creativity to plan, create and participate in a class performance? All pupils have been working on group or class activities and last Friday every class presented to the Year 7 group. From live performances, dance, music and some amazing film, editing and script writing  skills on show, it has been fantastic to see their ideas and effort come together.  What a talented group we have!

Last week we also had Gill our Librarian run our Year 7 Lit Quiz. All classes throughout this term have been working in groups during our library times with Gill completing a quiz every week. The best team from each class then represented their class in the final last Wednesday. It was tied 14 all after the first 20 questions with Room's 6 and 26. Room 6 stormed home to a comfortable win in the second set of questions. Congratulations to Tyne, Basu, Rosa and Aidan on retaining the Freshman Shield in Room 6 until next year.

I would also like to acknowledge your generosity for your recent contributions to the Presbyterian Support foodbank appeal. This week we  are able to hand over numerous  items to the staff from PSO to support families at this time of year. So thank you and all the Year 7 children for their donations - I know that these donations will make some families life a little less stressful this Christmas.

As the year draws to a close, I would like to thank our Year 7 parent community for their ongoing support throughout the year. The Year 7 team are also really looking forward to watching our Year 7 pupils step up to be the leaders of the school in 2020 and we are excited to follow their progress!

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all!

Lisa Dixon and the Year 7 team.
