Message from the Principal

It's hard to believe we are almost at the end of Term One!

We have had a very busy and exciting term. It has been great to see the developing confidence from our Year 7 students as they fully settle into Balmacewen life. Camps, visits, sports and music opportunities have all added to the rich experience for our students and all the while making new friendships and settling in to school.

The atmosphere in our school is one of energy, enthusiasm and fun. The positive attitude and willingness to work together has been great to see. We talk often about our school values and especially kindness and respect They are constantly in play as our children learn to socialise, communicate and contribute positively wth others.

There's no doubt that our children's lives are increasingly complex. Social media, gaming and unfettered online access are additional and often complicated layers to young peoples lives. The response to our recent promotion of Family Zone was very low.  Whether or not you think that the monitoring of your child's online life is important I do urge you to continue to develop honest and open conversations about what your child does and where they go online. Limit screen time, know passwords and talk to you child about being safe.

Netsafe produce excellent resources to support parents in this area. I have attached a useful info sheet for you to read.

It is my pleasure to announce that we have appointed a new Assistant Principal Dean of Year 7. Lisa Dixon will bring a wealth of experience and passion for Balmacewen Intermediate to the Year 7 teaching team. Also see in this newsletter more information on staffing.

Finally, thanks to those of you who have volunteered to help with winter sports teams. With such large numbers of children participating it's great to have your help.

As always, please contact me if I can help in any way.

Kind Regards

Andrew Hunter
