Girls Cricket

Today our girls team played in the Otago semi final as part of the National Primary School Shield competition.

We were lucky enough to have home ground advantage which meant Arrowtown School had to travel down to Balmacewen. There were plenty of nerves to begin with as it was the first time our team had played at school.

We got off to a slow start with Arrowtown taking some early quick wickets. However, a solid partnership in the middle of our innings by Elisabeth (30 runs) and Kate (19 runs) helped us get to a very respectable and defendable total of 92.

The girls knew that they had to have a positive start to their fielding innings to be in the game. They did just that. An amazing opening spell by Kate (5 wickets) and Elise (3 wickets) quickly had Arrowtown dismissed for a total of 16. This was helped by some fantastic work behind the stumps by Babet who took 3 sharp catches. Player of the day went to a very deserving Kate who got presented with the match ball.

An excellent effort by the girls, well done! Now we will get ourselves ready for the upcoming final in a few weeks time. Excitement levels are building already!
