Kaikorai Kids Kill it at the Hockey Turf

The Kaikorai Gold hockey team smashed straight into the season with an outstanding game. The bold year fives and sixes who make up the team took to the turf on Wednesday the 16th. It was a rainy day but that wasn’t stopping these fabulous hockey players from playing their hardest against the enemy team - Warrington. We went down to McMillan turf to observe this exciting game.

The Game

The start of the game had a great goal from one of Kaikorai’s players, tackling the ball from the opposing team, dribbling it up half the field and sweeping it straight into the goal. A couple of great tackles from both teams, as Warrington strikes back, almost scoring a penalty corner. Kaikorai was mainly attacking the first half, the other team having to get back in defence for most of the time. As the first half went on, Warrington’s defence improved.

Second half - starting off with a goal from Kaikorai, almost saved by Warrington’s goalie. But they made up for it after an extraordinary save from a fast sweep. The ball in the second half was certainly shared more, as Warrington stepped up their game, and forced Kaikorai to get more defensive. More goals were scored, and the intensity of this game increased. With some team efforts, and some outstanding work from some particular players. The game ended with the score of 9 - 3 to Kaikorai. It was a great game and we’re really impressed at the efforts of both teams.
