What's hot in the Kitchen?

Term 3 has seen a change in the Year 8 Programme and Year 7's putting their own twist on some favourites.

The Year 7's were able to experiment with flavours and textures in the 2nd half of the term.  Anzac Biscuits, Bread, Burgers and muffins all looked and smelt different in the foods room this term.  The students planned and created their own twist on these favourites. With the Anzac's they had to think about their family's likes and dislikes to modify the basic recipe to create a biscuit suitable for a 4 hour hike. The Bread had to be suitable for dinner, muffins suitable for an afternoon tea, and the burgers suitable for  lunch.  Lots of yummy flavours were created.

In Year 8 we have made both sweet and savoury dishes. After designing our own pies, making both the pastry and the filling, we had a bit of fun with food photography and advertising of our pies. To complete the term we have made creme brulee, mini pavlovas, and iced our own biscuits, finishing with a Mystery Box Challenge which saw some fabulous creations that had the Judges asking for the recipes!

Both Year 7's and the Year 8's will be coming home with their Food Technology Book this week and will be able to cook up a storm over the holidays.
