Communication through challenges.

Rooms 9,10 and 11 have been exploring what it means to be communicating this term.  As part of our exploring we worked in groups to work through a challenge.  Our challenge was called MacGuyer and our task was to use only simple equipment such as newspaper, string, sellotape and one plastic bag to create a piece of equipment to drag a hammer towards us.

MacGyver is a television hero who has many adventures.

On one episode, he was knocked out and then wakes up to find that some villains have embedded his feet in a newly poured concrete floor at a building site.  He is unable to pull his feet out but has not completely hardened yet. There is a bomb that is about to go off in 10 minutes time to blow up the building.

MacGyver notices a hammer and a chisel across the room lying 2.5m away from him.

He knows that if he could drag the hammer and chisel over he could chip away at the concrete, escape and defuse the bomb.

The villains were careless and left some rubbish behind that was in MacGyvers reach...

Our task was to work as a group and use the ‘rubbish’ to make a device to bring the hammer and the chisel within reach.

This was a fun challenge and it allowed for a lot of communication, team work and problem-solving.
