Rhinos romp to victory

The Block vs Block rugby league title was up for grabs in term 3 and the Block 3 Rhinos (rooms 9, 10, 11, 13, 14) were the worthy victors.

Term 3 provided an opportunity for students to align themselves with their fellow blockmates in a Block vs Block rugby league tournament.

The round robin format was dominated by Block 1 Wasps and the Block 3 Rhinos. Both teams did enough in their round robin clashes to earn their spots in the Grand Final.

The playoff for the wooden spoon was between the Block 2 Tigers and the much talked about team, the Heights Panthers coached by Richard Olsen who had big plans going into the tournament. The Panthers won only one game in the tournament which was the 3rd and 4th playoff, meaning the Tigers were handed the unwanted title of wooden spooners.

The Grand Final however was played with intensity fitting of a final. Both teams having shown why they were in the final. The Rhinos stormed to an early 3 try to zip lead only to fall asleep and allow the Wasps back in with 2 quick tries.

After a stern talking to from coach Pete 'Cappy' Friend, the second half however saw the Rhinos assert their dominance and power to a 5-2 victory and claim the title of Block Champions.

Thanks to all the pupils who participated, to the staff who managed and coached the teams, and the referees from Kings High School who all made this competition possible.

Players to impress:

WASPS: Tyler, Jamal, Eli, Catherine

TIGERS: Braydon, Michael,  Walter, Benji

RHINOS: Josh, George, Caleb, Joy

HEIGHTS: Nasili, Xanthe, Jack, Lei
