Year 7 News May 2015

It is hard to believe we are half way through our Term 2 Discovery focus – It has been a busy, hands on term with a number of exciting learning opportunities.

The Year 7 team have had a busy 5 weeks thinking like scientists, investigating the science behind everyday kitchen ingredients and learning about chemical reactions and reversible and irreversible changes.  This is of course in conjunction with our term two focus of Discovery .  We all are visiting the Otago Museum to spend a session in Discovery World and learn about Inventors and Inventions.

All of our students are fully engaged in their first ever science Fair inquiry and we thank you for the support you are providing on the home front.  There are inventions being created, hypothesis being discussed and investigations started.  Please remember to get in touch with your child's teacher if you need any aspect of the science fair inquiry clarified.

We were lucky enough to have Tori Peeters speak to the Year 7 team about goal setting last week.  Tori is the number one javelin thrower in New Zealand and had plenty of advise and guidance to impart about why goal setting and  finding motivation is important.

We are really pleased with the Year 7 Mega Math Month results.  It is great to see the students focusing in on learning their timestables , it is imperative however  that the learning continues past May in order for all the tables to be secure and known.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support.

Beth Downie and the Year 7 team.
