Basketball - Oamaru Tournament

The middle weekend of the last school holidays was jam packed full of action at the Network Waitaki Basketball Tournament where Balmacewen sent two teams.

This tournament is held every year in Oamaru and includes teams from Canterbury, Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin. This year was the 20th anniversary of the competition. Both teams were extremely successful with the girls coming third and the boys coming first. All players had amazing tournaments and I am sure we will see some of them representing their province and country in the future.

Girls - The girls were up against some large teams and with only 8 players were often exhausted. They played fast and aggressive and were rewarded with some great wins. Kaitlyn Hastie, Libby Briggs and Dana Ballantyne had fantastic tournaments with Dana being named in the tournament team.

Boys - The boys again battled with lack of height but made up for it with speed and dedication. They played impressive basketball that was very fast yet controlled. A hard fought final lead them to be the first Dunedin team to win the title. Angus Faulks, Jack Muir, Shaquille Berwick, Angus Henderson, and Mike Ruske had superb tournaments with Mike being named in the the tournament team.

A huge thank you goes out to all parent support especially to Keri Ballantyne and Will Berwick who were our managers.

Lastly we would like to acknowledge our brilliant sponsors who made our trip possible. Thanks to Otago Packaging Supplies, Mitre 10 Mega, The Loan Star Dunedin,
