In Touch!

Balmacewen has had 9 teams competing at the Oval Junior Touch Module on a Thursday after school.

With only 1 night rained off, we have seen some great touch being played down at the Oval on a Thursday. 5 Boys teams, 3 girls and a mixed team have been showing what they can do and are dominating their grades as the finals have shown.

Last games are being played this week, and the Mixed are playing Tahuna in their final.  Both the Boys and Girls finals see Balmac play Balmac.  The Balmac Tornadoes are playing Balmac Cyclones in the Boys Grade for first and second, and the Balmac Thunder are playing John McGlashan for third, and the Balmac Fire are playing Balmac Stars in the girls grade. Good luck to you all.

A Big thank-you has to go to the coaches who have given up their time to coach.  8 of the 9 teams have Teacher Coaches, and we are lucky enough to have ex-pupils who volunteer to coach the last team. We also have ex-pupils who referee our Balmacewen teams every week, some who are in their 4th year of refereeing for us. Thank-you to all who have given up time for our students - it is always greatly appreciated.

We also have a group of 18 Y8 Students who have regularly given up their time to referee the junior games on a Thursday. They have finally earned their Touch Referee Badge after doing at least 1 game every week in both term 1 and 4.  We were lucky enough to have Otago Touch organise proper Refereeing tops for the students and they look really good out on the field.  The junior players like seeing them and enjoy having them officiating their games.
