Year 7 news

Read what has been happening in the Year 7 team this April.

Well done to all of our Year 7 for having an excellent first term.

By now most of the Year 7 team have presented their first Balmac ASPIRE inquiry unit on belonging to a community and the impact this has on them. This has been a huge area of growth for all of our pupils.  They have recognised the importance of asking rich and meaningful questions,  they are aware of using  a variety of sources for research and not relying solely on the internet, worked on their  time management skills and completing work within a given time frame  and they have sharpened up their presentation skills when presenting to an audience.  All of these skills will set them in good stead for their Term 2 Science and Technology inquiry.

It is great to see so many of our pupils committing to  a Winter sports team be it netball, miniball or hockey.  When students belong to  a sports team the school values are reinforced at every practice and at every game and this of course has a flow on in the school grounds and classrooms.  Well done to all those pupils involved!

Term 2 brings a science and technology focus as well as a focus on Matariki; we will be visiting Arai Te Uru Marae and the Otago Museum to visit the all new Planetarium - an exciting Term for sure.  Keep an eye out early in the term for dates and requests for help!

The Year 7 staff thank you for your support in all of their class programmes and outings that have happened this term and we look forward to your continued support throughout Term 2.

Have a great holiday!

Beth Downie and the year 7 team.
