Year 8 Triathlon

In Year 8 Term 4 is all about CHALLENGE! Last Friday all Year 8 students took part in a fun triathlon designed for the students to challenge themselves both physically and mentally.

Last Friday all Year 8 students took part in the Balmacewen triathlon at Memorial Park in Mosgiel. The triathlon is part of our term 4 'Challenge' theme where students are given a number of opportunities throughout the term to challenge themselves both physically and mentally. Students could participate either individually or as part of a team and it was fantastic to see so many taking part.

We were greeted with a chilly morning at Memorial Park so the decision was made to change the order of the triathlon and start with the run and finish with the swim.

We started off with the teams race which was hotly contested and saw many students taking on the challenge head first. The support in the pool for the final swim leg was fantastic as the cheering and encouragement helped see many teams across the finish line.

Both individual boys and girls races saw some fantastic racing. There were a number of lead changes throughout both races which made for exciting viewing. The boys race came right down to the wire with the final swim leg of 75m deciding the winner.

It was a very successful morning at Memorial Park and a special thanks must go to all the parents who helped transport bikes to and from school, helped with marshaling and also preparing some delicious sausages on the bbq too!
