Room 14's Aquarium Visit

Room 14 enjoyed an awesome day out at the Portobello Aquarium to kick-start our Rocky Seashore Unit.

What an amazing facility it is out at the Portobello Aquarium. Room 14 was lucky enough to spend the day there today and use the wonderful upgraded facilities that the Aquarium has to offer.

We started off the day discussing the different living creatures that we are likely to find in the Otago Harbour and surrounds.

We then split into two groups and completed a number of different activities. We went back in time in the submarine and looked at what creatures we are likely to find in the deep caves 1000m deep just off the coastline.

The Lantern Shark was one creature that really fascinated me but one that we're never likely to see as it lives at the depths of the ocean floor.

The 'touch tank' was a real highlight as we were able to touch a range of different rocky seashore creatures including; Camoflauge Crabs; Hermit Crabs: Sea Anemones; Starfish; Half-Crabs; Seastars; Sponges; various types of seaweed and many more fascinating creatures.

Room 14 enjoyed a fantastic day at the Aquarium and a huge thank you must go out to our awesome parent helpers and also Shelly and Olivia from the Portobello Aquarium for making our trip such an exciting one!
