Year 7 Term 3 news

This Term has whizzed by and we have had an action packed few months !

The Year 7 team have been busy running, jumping, throwing and climbing!

All classes were very lucky with the weather and had an action packed day out at Long Beach - the main focus was team building and coping with the challenges of rock climbing.  The other activities were sand sculpting and a cave problem solving treasure hunt! Dave Brash and his team from Dunedin climbing LTD provide the expertise and teach our children how to climb.  For some it was their first time climbing for others they were natural climbers - but all classes had an excellent day and thank you to all our parents who helped make the day a success.

30 children from the Year 7 team ran the final 2.2km for the Children's Marathon on the morning of the Dunedin marathon.  They had run the previous 40km during fitness and cross country training leading up to the event.  It was excellent to see many children take up this opportunity to challenge themselves and try something new.

We are gearing up for athletic sports day on Friday 16th October and we have been teaching the correct techniques to all athletics activities in a Year 7 rotation session.

Our term 3 ASPIRE Inquiry of change  is varied among the Year 7 team and we are seeing inquiries around persuading people to change their opinions, changing the amount of screen time, changing the way we help around the house, changing the amount of sleep we are having - all different but meaningful and relevant to our learners.

Looking ahead to Term 4 we have some great trips and visitors planned - We are going to the beach for some beach education, we have an educator visiting from the New Zealand Ballet Company to take each class through a 90 minute ballet workshop, we have renowned NZ illustrator Bruce Potter visiting for workshops and author/illustrator  Stu Duvall visiting too - all of these workshop fit in with our overall focus of Communication through the arts.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the Year 7 team and our programme.

Enjoy your holiday break.

Beth Downie and the Year 7 Team.
