The Year 7 trip!

All Year 7 classes visited some amazing spaces last week to learn about the body.  Read Maia and Shima's account of the trip

Room 6 and  Room 2 boarded the bus, buzzing with excitement and curiosity.

The frost-covered grass crunched underneath our shoes as we made our way towards the bus that awaited us, filled with anticipation.

Our first destination was the PE school.  We first took a trip to the 40 degree chamber, and turned the heat up to 25 degrees - the morning temperature in Rio! It was a nice change compared to outside.

After that, Maia and Nikita took a dip in the Flume. They swum against the world record speed for 50 metres freestyle! Just kidding, they had something to hold onto (luckily). They were videod from underwater at different angles as well and we watched them on a big screen.

Our next location was Unipol. Our guide showed us around the exercise areas and then we played a game of dodgeball with room 2 in the basketball court.

The next stop was the Forsyth Barr Stadium where we learnt about how the grass grows under a roof while still being healthy and how they reinforced the roots of the grass so they don’t rip up during a rugby game.

As we climbed up the stairs to the VIP area, the fire alarm went off! Luckily it was just a drill.

After lunch we walked to the Anatomy Museum. Inside we explored the very interesting models and displays. There were real limbs and organs preserved in liquid, as well as preserved by plastination*, meaning we could touch and hold them.

At the end of the day we were exhausted, our brains overflowing with the new and interesting information.

Our day had been packed

*Plastination - a technique for the preservation of animal and human tissue by which body fluids and fat are replaced with synthetic materials such as silicone resins or epoxy polymers.
