Ice Hills

My hands grasped at the cool, snow covered mountains, the cold temperature stinging my hands. Salty teardrops spilled from my dull eyes, freezing as they rolled down my cheeks. The frozen wind raced through the hills, sending my long, unkempt hair trailing behind me. Despair swallowed my insides, as I whipped my head around, looking for an escape. The snow beneath my feet crunched softly as I spun around, disorientated, looking for something different from the snow coated mountains I had become accustomed to. A flurry of snowflakes came swirling down, grazing my soft cheeks, then coming to a rest on my shoulders. Smaller flakes of snow melted on my eyelashes, blurring my vision. I wiped my eyes, before staring down the mountains, mapping out the route I had taken to climb the slippery mountain. That path was nearly gone now, the footprints being covered by a fresh blanket of snow. The other side of the hill was unmarked, and I tentatively placed a foot down, beginning my descent.
