Year 8 Review

Wow what an exciting first up term for 2016!  Read on to get informed.

Kia Ora families and friends of our Year 8 students,

What an extremely busy term we have experienced!

Our integrated theme for this Term was called Survivor and the highlights were:

- A visit to both the Portobello Aquarium and the Otago Museum to examine the special features of creatures.

- Completing our Term 1 Inquiry Investigations.

- Developing leadership skills by organising and participating in class / school wide events.

- Welcoming the Year 7 students into Balmacewen by means of a Powhiri.

We really do appreciate the help and support that you provide with the running of our programmes. Without your assistance these out of school activities would be a challenge to undertake. Thank you all very much.

Next term promises to be more of the same as we move into our integrated theme called “Wonderment”. The 2 key questions we will focus on are…

- Can I make sense of the world around me?

- Can I Prove It / Make It /Create It?

With activities such as Science Fair Inquiry Projects and another five classes heading off to camp… next term once again will be a hive of activity.

The Berwick camp experience is sure to be a major highlight of your child’s time at Balmacewen. The cost of this week at camp is $145, which can be paid off in installments. If you are experiencing difficulty with the cost of this activity then please contact Mr. Hunter, as it is our wish that all students take part in this activity.

Thanks once again for all your support.

The Year 8 Teaching Staff wishes everyone a safe and relaxing break.
