Room 14 Art Gallery Trip

As part of our current theme on the Olympics we had a visit to the Art Gallery. Our focus was on the Ancient Olympics and the stories behind some of the Olympic rituals.

We started off in the Art Gallery looking at paintings and identifying shapes, patterns, tone and colour and how they can be interpreted in different ways. We talked about the emotions represented by colour like the emotions of being an athlete and about winning and losing. We had our own challenge - using shape toy sorters and challenging others to be first finished. This lead to the "final" where the winners were awarded prizes. John told the class about unusual Ancient Olympic facts and stories. We talked about how we find out about ancient  cultures which lead to the idea of images left for example pottery.

This lead on to our art workshop where we had to draw vases and then add on Olympic images from either the Ancient or Modern games. We used black ink, vivids and orange dye to create our art work. It was a fun and engaging way to be creative and show our learning.
