What's been happening in the Year 7 team this Term?

It has been an exciting hive of activity in the Year 7 classes this month.

Our topic focus has been on THE MAGIC OF DISCOVERY - and being curious in our investigations. All classes have engaged in a some STEM challenges - STEM stands for Science - Technology - Engineering and Maths.  Science is all around us and technology is expanding in to all aspects of our lives.   Classes have been building pompom catapults and  scribble bots - A scribble bot is a little robot that colours on its own. Most scribble bots operate off of a vibrating motor that helps the robot skip across a piece of paper.

Classes have also been looking at the scientific method and learning about chemical reactions. Some classes have done experiments with baking soda, tartaric acid and water! Cue the fizzing!  We have also had the amazing Amadeo from the Otago Museum visit for an explosive demonstration too!

We are half way through the science fair process.  Remember to please get in touch with your child's teacher if you have any specific questions regarding your child and their science fair.  It is great to see across all the Year 7 classes, the progress that has been made over the last 4 weeks already and we are looking forward to seeing the finished product on display in Week 10.

Mega maths months has been a hit across the Year 7 crew with all class averages improving! Let's try to maintain those improvements throughout the rest of Term 2 and beyond!

All classes are off to the Art Gallery in June for a half day session with the amazing educator. John will guide each classes through the gallery looking at exhibitions, talking about the artists style, we will then venture into the classroom and create some art of our own to take back to school for display! Please contact your child's teacher if you would like to help out with this trip.

As always, don't hesitate to get in touch in we can support you or your child in any way,

Beth Downie and the Year 7 team.
