Deputy Principal's Message

Term 3 has certainly been a busy one and we have many people, performances and achievements to celebrate.

As you will see, this newsletter showcases a wide range of achievements and activities that our students have been involved in this term across all areas of our school.

From plays and PBL projects in the classroom, to creative skills in art and technology, to team work and perseverance on the sports field, Balmacewen's students have been very busy this term!! And so have our fabulous staff and parent community.

A big thank you to all of our parents and families for supporting their children in their learning, creative and sporting endeavours this term, and to our staff for their mahi in the classroom, on the sports field and in the wings of the performance stage.

Thank you to Matua Neil Brew and Whaia Sue Mepham for their brilliant leadership of our kapa haka group. Sue and Neil were supported by many of our teaching staff. Our Kapa haka group were outstanding at the recent polyfest and represented our school proudly. See the kapa haka article for more information and photos.

We also had two bands perform at the Otago Bandquest: Utraviolet and On Point.  Thank you to Jo Brusse for her support with this group.

Our jump jam team won the regional competition and qualified for the Nationals (South Island) in Christchurch in November. Thank you to Charlotte Cooper for her work with this team. Good luck to the team for their next performance.

Winter sports have kept many of our students active and engaged in team work over term 3. We had 77 Balmacewen students travel to Christchurch to participate in the Koru games. What an awesome experience! Thank you to our sports co-ordinator Kate Ebriham for her organisation with this and to all the staff and parents who contributed to it's success. A big thank you also to our sponsors (listed in the Koru Games article.)

As we round the corner to term 4 there are many exciting programmes and activities for our students to look forward to.  Our staff have engaging activities and programmes planned for our students in term 4 as you will see in the year 7 and year 8 updates.

Wishing everyone a relaxing holiday break.

Warm regards

Sara Quelch

Deputy Principal.
