Bandquest success

After two terms of individual and group preparation the two Balmacewen Rock Bands, “On Point” and “Ultraviolet”, were ready to perform their set of two songs at the annual Rockshop Bandquest competition in September.

There were 15 other bands from around Otago at the competition and this year the standard was very high with a lot of talent on display. All bands involved had a chance to have a run through one of their songs during the afternoon as a warmup. This was exciting for everyone as the gear and sound provided by Bandquest for the bands to use was pretty epic.

The competition evening was open to the public and this saw the Taieri College Performing Arts Centre being packed with friends and family creating a full house for everyone to play to. Full of excited nerves both Balmacewen bands performed their songs well and had the audience onside for their rocking numbers. Big shout out to Callum and Evelyn from “Ultraviolet” who jointly won the Musicianship award for their Trumpet and Trombone playing and to “On Point” who came in 3rd place overall in the competition with their songs ‘Eye of the Tiger’ and ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’. Thanks go to Brad Phipps for the great photos.

Well done to everyone involved!
