Music

This term has seen the different music groups at school settle into their rehearsal routines and start to develop their sound and repertoire.

Following auditions at the start of this term, the choir has been enjoying working on a variety of songs and waiata. We have also enjoyed having Olivia back working with us before she heads overseas to continue her studies as an opera singer. Big thank you to Susan Frame who stepped in while Olivia was away to cover playing the piano for us in term 1.

Two bands have started working on their songs in preparation for the Bandquest competition towards the end of term 3. These groups are displaying a lot of enthusiasm in their rehearsals and it will be exciting to see how they develop leading up to their competition.

Earlier this week the orchestra was joined by the Kaikorai Primary school orchestra for a workshop morning. This was a fantastic morning where new music was explored and the students were able to grow and support each other as they learnt their different parts. We are looking forward Term 4 when the Balmacewen orchestra will travel to Kaikorai school for a follow up workshop and shared concert. This was the second workshop for the orchestra this term as earlier in the term we were able to watch and then play with several Logan Park High School chamber music groups. It was fantastic to see such a wide range of instruments being played, especially by so many ex Balmacewen students.
