Term 3 in the Foods Room

Biscuits, burgers, pasta, pies and more!

It’s been a busy start to term 3 in the foods room! In week 2,  year 6 students visited to make American Pancakes, and week 3 saw us baking hundreds of cookies for our Open Night visitors. A big thanks and well done to all of the Balmacewen students who helped out with these events.

Year 7 students are enjoying being food technologists this term, modifying basic recipes to add flavours and texture. Firstly we made designer Anzac biscuits, muffins and bread, resulting in amazing aromas floating over the hall courts. We finished off with burgers and a new project called Muesli in a Jar. We toasted rolled oats with honey then added dried fruits, seeds, coconut, rice bubbles and cornflakes. The effect of presenting our muesli in layers in a jar was impressive - check out our photos below!

Year 8 students have been learning how to make short pastry, puff pastry, spaghetti bolognaise and macaroni cheese, so they are now ready to design and make their own pies from scratch next week. We are looking forward to seeing what they produce.

We would welcome any glass jars (with lids) and ice cream containers if you have any spares at home.
