South Island Water polo

Earlier this term we entered a team in the South Island Water polo Intermediate tournament here in Dunedin.

Over the weekend we competed against teams from around the South Island. This level of competition is difficult to get locally and so the experience of the tournament was a great opportunity to grow and develop our players. We took a combined team - primarily most of the Gold team that was available and bolstered by a number of players from our Silver team. Throughout the weekend it was fantastic to see the growth, determination and confidence of our players grow. Following a very intense and close game with James Hargest High school we finished top of our pool to go through to the semifinals and finals on the Sunday.

Winning 6 out of their 7 games, our team ended up second place in the South Island- an outstanding result for all involved after going down to Cobham Intermediate in the final.  Two of our players also ended up being named in the tournament team - congratulations to Lily and Zach - Zach was also named goalie of the tournament. Well done to all players - you represented our school with pride and I was so proud of your achievements and the way you conducted yourselves over the weekend.

The same weekend as this tournament we had two of our players away in Auckland with the Otago U12 team to compete at the Div C Nationals. Well done to Ruby and Nathan who were part of this team that won at Nationals - congratulations on this outstanding result.
