Kiwi Tag

On Friday May 15th, two teams went to Bathgate Park to compete in the Otago League Kiwi Tag tournament.

Kiwi Tag is a rip version of League and played on half-field.

The girls had 2 weeks of training in their teams. One week with Oscar the League Development Officer, and one week with Jeff and Mrs Buttery at school.

With 5 teams in the competition it was a round robin of games, with the top 2 heading into the final.

Both teams had a lot of fun playing teams from Tahuna, Carisbrook and East Otago High School.

The Balmac Y7's won 2 and lost 2 and ended up playing Carisbrook for 3v4. A tight game with Balmac Y7's winning 6-4.

The Balmac Y8's won 3 and lost in the round robin to Tahuna 4-3. They ended up playing Tahuna in the final and it promised to be a tight game. A late try to Balmac saw the game go into overtime with golden point rule. A nervous 5 minutes later saw Fleur landing the winning try. The whole team giving 100% on the field.

It was a fantastic day, with amazing players and the sun coming out in the afternoon.
